Birth Photography
Posted on June 4, 2010
I had the honor, the pleasure, and the life changing experience of photographing a birth on April 19th. Baby Mia was my first birth photography experience thanks to her precious mama, and I’m so grateful! A. had a planned induction so we knew about when Mia was going to arrive. We agreed I would meet them at the entrance of the hospital that morning, around 7:30 AM. A. was induced not much later and had sweet little Mia at 3:54 PM that afternoon. What took my breath away the most was not the actual birth, but of Mama’s strength and resilience. I was awed at how strong, persistent, calm, and ready Mama was while Daddy was only able to sit by and offer conversation, an occasional laugh, and a bit of comfort during the delivery. I have never in my life experienced a man who seemed to feel so helpless; the hours spent during labor and delivery were truly This Woman’s Work. Once Mia was born A. retained her strength, her calm and relaxed demeanor, she just got down to the business of being Mama. Oh and you should have seen proud Papa, i couldn’t get enough pictures of his awestruck expression, the true love he had in his eyes for his brand new baby girl. For at least 15 minutes he stood by the warmer and touched her, photographed her, talked to her. It was love at first sight for Daddy for sure.
Thanks A. and M. for letting me be a part of your experience.. thank you thank you :)
