Catching Up! ~Fall 2010

Posted on March 7, 2011

Hello everyone!  I’ve got soooo many fall/winter 2010 sessions to catch up on! I apologize if you’ve been waiting to see your session images on here and, well, waiting… and waiting… and waiting…

I’m going to start with the last outdoor sessions from the fall, one with an urban style and one our typical outdoors look.

These first two kiddos I had the privilege of photographing last year, too.  What I remember about Matthew and Ella is the love and affection they had for each other… and it still shows.  I’m sure they fight at home but I love how much camaraderie there was between them… the goofiness, the playfulness, the love. I asked Mom if they were that way only because they were bribed with hot chocolate after the session (it was in the 30s this Sunday morning!!!) but she said no, these two get along pretty well at home.  What I also loved about the session was how they changed over one year, or didn’t –  Matthew looks like… well, Matthew-one-year-older.  Ella looks like a true young lade.   She certainly had style last year but this year she chose to wear this fabulous sparkly hat and had some sass that I didn’t see last year.   These kids are amazing, I can’t tell you how happy I was to see them again this year!  I miss you two just thinking about the session!

This second family is oohhhhh so near and dear to my heart.  Man, where do I start…. I met Rene` (she gets so mad when you don’t include that little thingy in her name after the “e”) in graduate school at Drake University, I can’t even remember the year any longer. We became incredibly fast friends during the long drive to Ames every week for a class we were taking there, too.  After graduation we got our first “professional” jobs at the same place, and have been BFF’s ever since.  I first met Rene` when Ana was 4 years old… I remember the picture she showed me of Ana while sitting at the back of our Family Counseling class… Ana had this HUGE smile that covered her face from ear to ear, an adorable little dress with a matching hat, and sat oh so pretty like 4 year olds do when getting their picture taken.  Now look at her!!!! How dare she grow up and turn 15 (16 this month!) How dare she go to high school, get straight As, and now start driving a car… when did that happen!?!

I have never ever ever ever laughed like I have with Rene` – sooo many memories at “work” – morning coffee breaks that lasted about 20-30 minutes while we talked about this or that, lunch together at The International Cafe or The Tower where Rene` would chat up every sweet lunch lady there was, afternoon ice cream breaks, again at least 20 minutes.  I’ll never forgot the time Rene` and another work buddy, Joel, and I got ice cream and didn’t want to go to work so badly we just rode the elevator up and down until our ice cream was finished.  Our boss even got on at one floor (he just laughed, he rocked) but we just kept on going.  So much fun.

Honestly these words don’t do justice for this family, My Family: the godparents of my girls, laughter when there wasn’t any, tears when times were tough, hugs every single solitary day several times a day and even a peck on the cheek (I don’t kiss anyone on the lips but my husband and kids, sorry Rene`), and my future fellow leathery old beach buddy.  We are makin it to that condo on the beach someday, Rene` – those beach boys will STILL think we are hot.

Snoop around....
