Catching up ~ Indoor/winter sessions 2010
Posted on March 12, 2011
Hello again! Here are the rest of my sessions that I’ve been so late on posting! I can’t just post them randomly here, as always I need to share memories from each session. Its like I have to “get it out”, I have to talk about the friends I’ve made and the impressions they’ve made on me. I love my job in great part because of the people I meet!
You may or may not recognize this handsome man from previous posts… this is Finn at his one year session! We didn’t do the traditional cake smash and it was just too cold to go outdoors, so we decided to showcase the handsome one year old at his favorite place in the whole wide world, at home with his mom and dad. His eyes remain the same – those great big eyes full of wonder are something I won’t forget. You can’t look at Finn and not notice how amazing his eyes are the moment you take him in. I’m also taken away by his need for touch – to always touch mom or always touch dad or be so close that he can touch someone within seconds if needed. I know that’s common in toddlers but its so amazing to witness. The comfort Finn finds in his mama and daddy make me want to be a kid again and find that same comfort in the laps of my mom and dad. Happy (verrryyyy belated) first birthday Finn!

This next family comes all the way from the East Coast! They are relatives of another favorite client/family of mine (I love my peeps!) Last year when Lindy and I photographed these folks the twins were only 5 months old. It was great fun to see how much they had changed over the last year – they have (a bit more…) hair now and their personalities were a bit more obvious to us. It seemed to us when it comes to the twins Moli wears the pants in that relationship, but Max doesn’t mind a bit, he’s happy to be following in his twin sister’s footsteps, she won’t lead him astray. Big brother hadn’t changed much since last year… which I’m sure is a relief to mom and dad; who wants their kids to grow up!?!
While Lindy and I waited for perfect quiet moments to photograph, to get that perfect family portrait to hang above the fireplace… they just didn’t come. It was CRAZY!!!! And I tell you what…. I loved it. I loved it because it was REAL. This is what a real family is about, its all of these moments that make up who we are. We are quiet cuddly families when our babies are sick, we are silent but enthralled families when Blues Clues has found his third clue, we are crazy wild unorganized messy faced families when its time to walk out the door or get ready for bed. All these moments make up the story of who we are, and they are all REAL. My favorite image from this session was when mom was trying to read the 3 kiddos a book… now that’s a family.

And this third family, you’ve seen them many times before. First there was Aidan – the wide eyed soft and cuddly 4 month old who was the very first baby I ever photographed. This sweet baby boy grew into a forever sweet big brother with a smile that you can’t help but smile back. His view of the world is perfect; he makes you want to get down on the floor and join him in his adventures and never leave them. Through his imagination he reminds you of what it was like to be his age, he takes you back there and makes you want to stay. Then comes baby brother Alexander, also with eyes like a deep pool that make you feel calm and peaceful. Alexander has his big brother’s smile… it never stops. You look at him and he smiles at you because he sees something maybe you have forgotten. He keeps smiling…….. even if you are thinking about where you have to be next or what tomorrow might bring. He brings you back to him, his world, his peace, his love. When you are with Alexander you are with an old soul that reminds you of the circle of life and that today is just today, tomorrow brings hope. How can a 9 month old do that you say?? I don’t know, he just does.
I’ve got more recent pictures of these sweet brothers… check back for them soon. If you aren’t convinced of the power of their smiles in this post you will be in the next one.
