I love summer!!
Posted on June 23, 2011
I love summer for so many reasons – my kids are home from school, the wildflowers, landscape flowers, planting and eating tomatos (and zucchini if I can get it to grow), slip n slide, sprinkler, and birds!!! We’ve got two goldfinch feeders outside our deck; we used to have regular bird feeders with sunflower seeds hoping to attract Cardinals but only those pesky bullying Grackle’s would show up. Now we have nyger seed only and it suits us just fine.
Today I walked to the back of the house to use the hose and got spooked by this mama Morning Dove! I didn’t think doves were very smart anyway but IMO its a baaaad idea to build a nest in a totally exposed area so low to the ground… She’s built her nest right next to our water spigot on top of the hose wrap thing (technical term). What was she thinking!?! Oh well – it will be fun to watch things progress, I’ll try to get pictures of baby birds if they can make it that long. These days I hope her whole nest doesn’t blow over during one of these Iowa storms. Clearly Darwin was thinking of her when he postulated on Survival of the Fittest… or not fittest in this case (another technical term).

Finn!

Finn’s da man- you can just see it here, he’s got it going on. Especially those Cee Lo Green glasses… I’m humming the tune as I write this.
Wow Finn has really grown, I know I say that a lot about him (We’ve photographed him 5 times now) but look at him! He gets more and more outgoing and silly {mischievous} each session, I love watching him grow. His {amazing} eyes stay the same, I’ve said that, too. They do, look at them. His adoration {worship} for mom and dad is still obvious, but look at how he’s venturing more. He ran away a lot during the session, typical for this age, especially when kids are given an open field to run in and encouraged to have fun fun fun. One of my favs is the one where he’s walking away, he did that a lot. Most kids do at this age and I love those shots…. comfortable enough to walk (run) away from mom and dad but they always come back. Ok well that’s not always true, sometimes Mom and Dad have to chase them back.
Enjoy!
